Master Classes of Folk Craftsmen
On March 13, 2024, the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore hosted master classes titled “Master Classes of Folk Craftsmen” featuring local masters of traditional art. The event participants included: leather craftsman Kenes Ayypkaliev, laureate of the Kazakhstan Masters’ Competition held under the auspices of UNESCO (1997) and first-degree laureate of the contest “Makhambet menіn kоzіmmen” (2002); renowned wood craftsman Nursultan Kaliyev, known both in the region and across the republic, who was introduced to the craft from childhood as a family tradition and is a multiple-time winner of various competitions; and young Atyrau jeweler Kairat Shapabayev, who modernizes national heritage by transforming stone into unique jewelry, engraving historical symbols discovered in the Kazakh steppe, and casting them in silver.
The masters demonstrated various types of Kazakh folk craftsmanship and their creative process, showcasing their works and methods of production to museum guests and visitors. The event was attended by students and faculty of the K. Dutbayeva Atyrau Humanitarian College, teacher-masters and trainees of the National Center for Professional Development Orleu, museum staff, and individual visitors.
