Festive Event “Korisu – The Beginning of the New Year”



            On March 14, 2025, the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore hosted a festive event titled “Korisu – The Beginning of the New Year,” dedicated to the ancient Kazakh tradition founded on mutual respect, unity, and harmony. The event was organized with the purpose of promoting the ancient custom of Korisu and reviving national traditions. Among the guests were Honored Journalist of Kazakhstan and local historian T. Zhanabay, local historian M. Utegaliev, representatives of the Korean ethnocultural association “Thonil”, as well as veterans and museum staff.

           Museum employees, dressed in traditional costumes, exchanged greetings and embraces with elders and guests, following the customary Korisu ritual. The event opened with a welcoming speech by Museum Director M. Kipiev, who congratulated everyone on the occasion of Körisu Day. Guests witnessed theatrical performances of traditional Kazakh rituals, including “Kelin tusiru” (welcoming the daughter-in-law) and “Betashar” (unveiling the bride’s face). During the performance, to the sound of the dombyra, the ceremony of unveiling the bride’s face was held, followed by the father-in-law’s blessing. Afterward, attendees were offered traditional treats served by the young bride. At the conclusion of the event, guests shared heartfelt wishes. Honored Journalist of Kazakhstan and historian T. Zhanabay, as well as historian M. Utegaliev, expressed gratitude for the organization of the celebration. S. Han, a representative of the Korean ethnocultural association “Thonil,” thanked the museum staff for their significant contribution to the preservation and promotion of national traditions.
