Exhibition Dedicated to the Day of the National Currency from the Museum Collection “Tenge tol tarihy” featuring various types of the national currency that were in circulation in different years.

On November 14, 2023, the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore organized a temporary exhibition “Tenge — Our Own History” dedicated to the Day of the National Currency. The exhibition showcased various types of the national currency, the tenge, which had been in circulation over different years, as well as a collection of paper and small change coins from the 18th–20th centuries of different countries. The exhibition was timed to the 30th anniversary of the introduction of Kazakhstan’s national currency — the tenge. Its purpose was to familiarize visitors with the history of banknote issuance across different years, the significance of the tenge in the country’s economy, and the collection of monetary notes from the 18th–20th centuries preserved in the museum’s holdings.

On display were the first issues of the tenge featuring portraits of prominent historical figures, paper change coins, monetary notes of the Russian Empire, Soviet-era money, food ration coupons, as well as currencies of different countries. In total, the exhibition presented more than 120 exhibits.
