Temporary Exhibition “Results of Medieval Research in the Atyrau Region”



           On April 18, 2025, in celebration of the International Day for Monuments and Sites, the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore hosted the opening of the temporary exhibition “Results of Medieval Research in the Atyrau Region.” The event also included a photo exhibition of historical and cultural monuments of Atyrau Region and the presentation of an interactive map of the region’s historical and cultural heritage.

          The exhibition was opened by Deputy Director of the Museum S. Gazimova, who congratulated participants on the International Day for Monuments and Sites. T. Dostybaev, Head of the Center for the Study of Historical and Cultural Heritage, spoke about ongoing research and preservation efforts of historical sites in the region and presented the photo exhibition and interactive heritage map. Dr. A. Akhmet, Associate Professor at Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University, emphasized the importance of medieval cultural heritage and noted that the exhibited artifacts bear witness to the deep historical roots and spiritual richness of the Kazakh people. M. Abdigaliev, Senior Researcher of the Archaeology Department and Head of the Archaeological Expedition, reported on the archaeological excavations conducted in 2024 and highlighted key discoveries from the medieval sites Saraishyk, Korgansha, and the Taskeshu caravanserai, followed by a presentation of the exhibition’s artifacts. The exhibition featured unique artifacts unearthed by museum archaeologists during excavations at the three major medieval sites of the region — Saraishyk, Taskeshu, and Korgansha.

           Including:
  • From the Saraishyk settlement — ceramic vessels and items from the 13th–14th centuries, millstones, lamps, water pipes, iron and bone tools, ornaments, coins, numismatic materials of the Golden Horde, and photographs from the excavations;
  • From the Taskeshu caravanserai — fragments of 13th–14th century ceramic jugs and glassware, silver and copper coins of the Golden Horde, more than 70 types of asyks (ankle bones used in games), and archaeological photo documentation;
  • From the Korgansha settlement — ceramic products, parts of a water-lifting device, bricks, asyks, and images from the excavation site.
         The exhibition was attended by regional historians and archaeologists, students of the Faculty of History of Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University, cultural workers, schoolchildren, residents and guests of the city, as well as representatives of the media, all showing great interest in the history and heritage of their native land.
