Exhibitions

On April 23, 2025, the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore hosted a temporary exhibition and an educational session titled “The Secret of Kazakh Wooden Tableware.” The event aimed to popularize wooden utensils preserved in the museum’s collection and featured a unique display of traditional wooden items. The exhibition presented various types of spoons and ladles (ozhau), bowls (tostagan), mugs (saptyayaq), cup holders (kesekap), mortars for crushing sugar, vessels for pouring kumys and shubat (tegene), churn barrels with pestles, grain-grinding tools (keli and kelsap), and large wooden dishes — astau and tabak of different kinds. In total, more than 30 exhibits were showcased.

During the exhibition, visitors learned about the process of making wooden utensils, methods of storage and maintenance, as well as the health benefits of using wooden items — all deeply connected to the nomadic lifestyle of the Kazakh people. The event was attended by teachers and students of the art and craft department of K. Dutbayeva Atyrau Humanitarian College. At the end of the session, participants toured the museum’s exhibition halls and familiarized themselves with the rich cultural heritage of the Kazakh people.
