Exhibition “The Yellowed Letters Speak”
On May 5, 2025, in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore opened a temporary exhibition titled “The Yellowed Letters Speak.” The purpose of the exhibition was to convey the hardships, courage, and hope of wartime through soldiers’ letters, and to remind visitors of the enduring value of peace.
The exhibition featured letters written in Arabic script, Latin, and Cyrillic, reflecting the multilingual heritage of Kazakhstan’s wartime correspondence. Among them were: a copy of a letter from Hero of the Soviet Union Musa Baimukhanov addressed to his family, a letter from Sh. Karzhauov to his wife Mariyam, in which he described his awards and wartime experiences, as well as letters from front-line soldiers Temirgali Erkingaliyev, Bisengul Sakipov, Maman Utetileuov, Elemess Kosaliyev, and Gabdurakhim Sapin written to their loved ones. A particularly poignant part of the exhibition was a notification letter about the death of Konstantin Anechkin, reminding visitors of the personal cost of war. The event was attended by descendants of veterans, schoolchildren, students, and servicemen, who had the opportunity to experience the emotional atmosphere of the wartime years and to appreciate the heroic legacy of the generation of Victory.
