Archaeological research of the Karabau-2 kurgans



       From October 9 to November 28, 2023, archaeological excavations were conducted near the village of Karabau in the Kyzylkoga District at the Karabau-2 kurgans. The work was directed by senior researcher of the department, M. Kasenov.
 
          As a result of the research, four burials were identified, dated to the period from the 6th century BC to the 4th century AD. Anthropological studies of the discovered human remains were carried out by anthropologist R. Zhanuzak, head of the laboratory of physical anthropology of the A. Margulan Institute of Archaeology. Based on the analysis of the skeletal material, the age, sex, physical characteristics, racial-typological features, osteological constitution, and body proportions of the buried individuals were determined.
