Ethnographic Expedition Organized in the Region (Right Bank of the Ural River) for the 135th Anniversary of Nasikhat Sugiruly’s Birth
In August 2024, an ethnographic expedition was organized to the Makhambet, Isatay, and Kurmangazy districts. The expedition was led by Candidate of Ethnographic Sciences Dosymbek Katran and literary scholar, essayist, Candidate of Philological Sciences, ethnographer M. Tazh-Murat. The expedition team included: Chief Curator of Collections B. Khasanova, Head of the Collections Registration Sector F. Tamenova, Head of the Excursion and Mass Work Department A. Lyan, and staff member of the Research Department of Modern History D. Satimova.
The ethnographic expedition worked in two directions: first — collecting ancient customs and traditions of the people, old songs, legends and tales connected with the region, the history of toponyms, as well as nearly forgotten techniques and methods once used in everyday household life; second — identifying valuable objects preserved by local residents from their ancestors, along with old items of household use and historical significance, followed by their documentation and transfer to the museum collection. As a result of the ethnographic expedition, 50 museum objects of historical and cultural value were added to the museum’s collection.
